A 17-year-old has been charged and is set to appear in court later today after two robbery incidents at shops in Carlisle city centre on Tuesday, April 7.

Police were called to English Street shortly after noon following reports that a male had been involved in robberies at two separate stores, taking boxed iPhone devices from staff. Officers were also told the suspect was carrying a bladed article during the incidents.

No injuries were reported in connection with the robberies, and the teenager was arrested soon after by officers responding to the reports. He has since been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of possession of an offensive weapon.

The accused, who has an address in Scotland, is scheduled to appear before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

Cumbria Constabulary thanked members of the public and officers involved in the swift arrest and encouraged anyone with further information to contact police.
