10p Community Swim Sessions Return Across North And West Cumbria
Families across North and West Cumbria will once again be able to enjoy swimming for just 10 pence as the popular summer initiative returns during the school holidays.
The initiative is being delivered by Cumberland Council in partnership with Better, which manages the area's leisure centres. The discounted sessions will be available at participating pools throughout the summer break, providing thousands of young people with access to low cost swimming opportunities.
The programme aims to help children remain physically active during the holidays while supporting families facing increased living costs. Swimming is recognised as one of the most accessible forms of exercise, promoting physical fitness, confidence in the water, and overall wellbeing for people of all ages.
Councillor Anne Quilter, Cumberland Council's Executive Member for Vibrant and Healthy Places, welcomed the return of the scheme, saying it provides an excellent opportunity for children to enjoy healthy activities during the summer while easing financial pressure on parents and carers. She encouraged families to take advantage of the initiative throughout the school holidays.
Participating leisure centres will offer the discounted sessions on selected dates during the holiday period. Families are advised to check individual timetables and booking arrangements with their local centre, as session availability may vary depending on demand and pool schedules.
The return of the 10p swims programme forms part of wider efforts to improve community health, increase participation in physical activity, and ensure that recreational facilities remain accessible to residents across the county. Organisers hope the initiative will once again attract large numbers of families throughout the summer.
With schools now breaking up for the holidays, the scheme offers an affordable opportunity for children to keep active, develop swimming skills, and enjoy quality time with family and friends at local leisure centres across North and West Cumbria.
