10-Day Road Closure Planned for North Cumbria Maintenance Work

A road in North Cumbria is scheduled to close for 10 days to allow essential maintenance work to be carried out, local authorities have confirmed.

Cumberland Council announced that the closure will affect the route between Highland View and Silverside, near Boltonfellend, to the north of Carlisle. Work is due to begin on Monday, May 18.

The maintenance programme is expected to last for 10 working days, although officials have noted that the timeline may be subject to change depending on weather conditions and on-site requirements.

During this period, the road will be closed to vehicles, and a clearly marked diversion route will be put in place to help manage traffic and reduce disruption for drivers in the area.

Contractors are set to operate between 8am and 4pm each day while the work is carried out.

Despite the closure, authorities have confirmed that access will still be maintained for emergency service vehicles. Pedestrians and cyclists who are dismounted will also be allowed to pass through the affected area.

In addition, essential services such as waste collection and school transport are expected to continue operating as normal throughout the duration of the works.

The planned closure forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve local road infrastructure, ensuring safer and more reliable travel for residents and visitors alike.

Motorists are being advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travel while the diversion remains in place.
