Secret Service Agent Investigated Over Alleged Leak From JD Vance Security Detail
The United States Secret Service has launched an internal and potential criminal investigation after an agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance's security detail was suspected of leaking sensitive operational information relating to the Vice President's movements.
The agent has been placed on administrative leave while investigators examine whether protected travel details were improperly disclosed to members of the media. Officials have not publicly identified the individual involved, and the inquiry remains ongoing.
According to reports, the alleged leak involved information about planned travel by Vice President Vance and members of his family, including details of a proposed Marine Corps helicopter flight that was ultimately cancelled because of poor weather. The disclosure also reportedly included internal concerns expressed by some members of the protective detail regarding last minute travel requests.
The Secret Service said it treats any action that could compromise the safety of protectees with the utmost seriousness. The agency confirmed that its Office of Professional Responsibility is conducting the investigation and indicated that criminal investigators could also become involved if evidence of unlawful disclosure is found.
Vice President Vance's office expressed confidence in the Secret Service and thanked agents for their continued work protecting the Vice President and his family. Officials declined to comment further while the investigation is underway.
The investigation comes as the Trump administration continues to take a tougher approach toward unauthorised disclosures of sensitive government information. Recent leak investigations have involved multiple federal agencies as officials seek to strengthen operational security and reduce the release of confidential government material.
Security experts note that although the reported travel details did not involve classified intelligence, unauthorised disclosure of protective movements can create operational risks by exposing routes, schedules, or security procedures used to protect senior government officials. The Secret Service said it would take appropriate disciplinary action once the investigation is complete.
