Iran Warns US to Stay Out of Strait of Hormuz After Trump Announces Ship Guidance Mission

04 May 2026 Iran Warns US to Stay Out of Strait of Hormuz After Trump Announces Ship Guidance Mission

Tensions in the Middle East have intensified after Iran warned the United States to stay out of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes.

The warning came after President Donald Trump announced that American forces would begin guiding stranded commercial ships through the narrow waterway under an operation described as Project Freedom.

According to reports, Trump said the mission would begin on Monday and described it as a humanitarian effort aimed at helping ships and crews that have been trapped in the area for days. The operation is intended to allow commercial vessels to move safely and resume normal trade activity through the strait.

Iran’s military responded with a firm warning, saying any foreign military presence entering or approaching the strait without coordination would be treated as hostile. Iranian officials said the security of the waterway remains under their control and insisted that ship movements must be coordinated with Iranian armed forces.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints, carrying a major share of global oil and gas exports. Any disruption in the area can quickly affect international shipping markets, energy prices and wider economic confidence. Although oil prices were reported to be relatively steady after the announcement, markets remain cautious as diplomatic tensions continue.

The situation remains highly sensitive. While Washington says the aim is to protect commercial navigation, Tehran views the move as a potential escalation. With military forces operating in close proximity, the latest exchange has added fresh uncertainty to an already fragile regional security picture.
