Health And Wellbeing Hub Planned For Former Egremont Pub.

Plans have been revealed to transform a former West Cumbrian pub in Egremont into a new health and wellbeing hub.

The Lounge Health Hub CIC has submitted an application to convert the ground floor of the former Cat Inn on Main Street, which has been vacant and unused for more than 12 months. The proposed facility would include treatment rooms, a lounge area and spaces for wellbeing activities, as well as a small beauty and wellbeing academy.

The community interest company said the hub would provide a range of services, including social prescribing, self-referral opportunities, subsidised wellbeing treatments and support programmes for both young people and adults. A dedicated academy would also offer practical training and development opportunities, helping people build confidence, skills and employability.

The facility is expected to operate throughout the year, with adult training and continuing professional development taking place outside school term times. It would primarily operate through appointments, scheduled activities and training, rather than late night entertainment.

The organisation is also developing working relationships with local education providers. The 290 square metre property would undergo a range of improvements, including exterior refurbishment, replacement of the ground floor front window, new rear patio doors and a new boundary treatment.

The former pub’s overgrown beer garden would also be brought back into use as an accessible and private landscaped garden for clients. The Cat Inn previously operated as a restaurant after closing as a public house around eight years ago. Preparatory work already completed at the property has been limited to internal stripping out, removal of redundant fixtures and fittings and necessary electrical replacements.
