Cumbria Health Appoints New Chief Executive

25 Mar 2026 Cumbria Health Appoints New Chief Executive

Cumbria Health has announced the appointment of Ross Brand as its new Chief Executive, succeeding Susan Blakemore, who is set to retire in May after more than two decades of service with the organisation.

Mr Brand brings substantial leadership experience to the role, having served as Chief Executive Officer of the PHL Group since 2018. He initially joined the organisation in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer and played a key role in developing integrated healthcare services across the UK.

Before his tenure at PHL Group, Mr Brand held senior positions at HUC Healthcare and the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust, and he began his career working in frontline care as a paramedic, ambulance crew member, and healthcare assistant.

Cumbria Health, which began as an out‑of‑hours service, has grown into a broad provider of healthcare services throughout the county.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Mr Brand said he is “honoured to be joining Cumbria Health” and praised the dedication of its staff and partners. He highlighted the organisation’s strong reputation and sense of purpose, and said he looks forward to building on its achievements in the years ahead.

Ed Tallis, Chair of Cumbria Health, welcomed Mr Brand’s appointment, noting his strong leadership record and commitment to patient‑centred care. He expressed confidence that Mr Brand will continue to drive the organisation forward following Ms Blakemore’s long tenure.
