Aldi Donates Over 24,000 Meals to Support Cumbrian Charities
Aldi has donated more than 24,000 meals to charities across Cumbria over the Christmas and New Year period, supporting communities during one of the busiest times of the year.
Working in partnership with the community giving platform Neighbourly, the supermarket redistributed surplus fresh and chilled food from its stores after closing early on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
Local beneficiaries included the Ulverston Food Project, Carlisle Foodbank, and Walney Community Trust, helping ensure good food reached people who needed it most.
Luke Emery, national sustainability director at Aldi UK, said the retailer was proud to support charities providing essential help during the festive period, adding that the scheme reflects Aldi’s commitment to reducing food waste while supporting local communities.
The initiative forms part of Aldi’s wider programme to ensure surplus food is put to good use rather than going to waste.
