Military Festival Brings Living History to Carlisle Castle
Carlisle Castle welcomed large crowds over the weekend as a popular military festival returned, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience centuries of military history brought to life.
The event, organised in partnership with Cumbria’s Museum of Military Life, featured a range of historical re-enactments, military displays, and interactive exhibits designed to appeal to all ages.
Across the castle grounds, visitors explored encampments and watched demonstrations spanning multiple eras, from medieval combat displays to modern military presentations. Re-enactors dressed in period uniforms helped recreate the atmosphere of different historical periods, giving guests an immersive experience.
Families were also able to take part in hands-on activities, including crafts and dressing-up sessions for children, making the festival both educational and entertaining.
A variety of military vehicles were on display, attracting particular interest from attendees keen to see restored and operational equipment up close. Living history exhibits and storytelling sessions further helped illustrate the region’s long military heritage.
Organisers said the festival continues to grow in popularity each year, drawing visitors from across Cumbria and beyond, while also highlighting the importance of preserving and sharing the area’s military history.
The event forms part of Carlisle Castle’s wider programme of historical attractions, which regularly bring the site’s rich past to life for modern audiences.
