Cumbria Steam Gathering Confirms Return After Online Rumours.
Organisers of the Cumbria Steam Gathering have confirmed the future of the popular South Cumbria event following online rumours about whether the much-loved gathering would return.
The annual event, organised by the Cumbria Steam and Vintage Vehicle Society, has been held at Cark Airfield in Flookburgh since 1986. The society says the gathering takes place annually over the last weekend of July.
The confirmation comes after the 2026 gathering, which took place on July 25 and 26. The event brought together visitors, exhibitors, traders and caterers for a weekend celebrating historic steam machinery, vintage vehicles and the region's industrial and agricultural heritage.
Organisers have thanked everyone who attended the 2026 gathering, as well as the exhibitors, traders, caterers and the large team of volunteers who helped prepare and run the event. Volunteers play an important role in the annual gathering, with many arriving during the week before the event to help prepare the site. Some then remain throughout the weekend to assist visitors and act as stewards before helping dismantle and store equipment after the event.
The gathering has become an established part of the local calendar, attracting people interested in steam engines, vintage vehicles and preserved machinery. Its long-running presence at Cark Airfield has also helped make it a significant community event for South Cumbria.

The society also confirms that public camping is available at the site, while gates traditionally open at 9am and close at 5pm during the gathering.
