Appleby Horse Fair Community Drop in Event Set for Post-Fair Feedback Session
A community drop-in event will be held in Appleby following this year’s Horse Fair, bringing together residents and key agencies to review the impact of the annual gathering and gather public feedback.
The session is being organised by the Multi Agency Strategic Co-ordinating Group (MASCG), which oversees planning and operations for the event. It will take place at Appleby Public Hall on Wednesday, June 17, beginning at 5pm and running until 8pm.
Representatives from Cumbria Constabulary, Westmorland and Furness Council, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, and other partner organisations are expected to attend. They will be available to speak directly with members of the public about their experiences of the fair.
Opening remarks will be delivered by senior officials involved in coordinating the event, including policing and local authority leaders. The session is designed to allow residents to raise questions, share concerns, and suggest improvements for future years.
The Appleby Horse Fair, one of Europe’s largest gatherings of Gypsy, Traveller, and Roma communities, draws tens of thousands of visitors to the area each June. While the event is widely regarded as a cultural tradition, it also places significant demands on local infrastructure and public services.
Organisers say the post-fair meeting forms part of a wider review process aimed at improving safety, traffic management, and community relations in future editions of the event.
Feedback collected at the drop-in will contribute to operational planning for upcoming years as authorities continue to balance tradition, safety, and local impact.
