Wet Weekend Followed By Warm Tuesday In Five-Day Cumbria Weather Outlook.
Cumbria is facing a changeable spell of weather over the next five days, with a wet weekend expected to give way to a much warmer and drier start to next week.
According to the latest forecast, Saturday will bring contrasting conditions across the county. While the central fells are expected to experience heavier rain, parts of South and West Cumbria should remain largely dry, with temperatures reaching around 17°C.
Sunday is expected to be the wettest day of the period, with widespread heavy rain developing across Cumbria. Rainfall chances could reach around 90 per cent in some areas, while temperatures are expected to reach approximately 16°C.
The weather will then improve significantly on Monday, when conditions are forecast to become drier and more settled across the county. Rain chances are expected to fall considerably, with temperatures around 15°C to 16°C.
A noticeable rise in temperatures is forecast for Tuesday, with parts of Cumbria potentially reaching around 20°C. The day is expected to remain largely dry, although stronger winds and rain are forecast to arrive later, particularly overnight. The Met Office similarly forecasts warmer conditions on Tuesday before rain moves in from the west.
By Wednesday, the unsettled weather is expected to return, with a mixture of sunshine and showers and temperatures easing slightly. The forecast suggests highs of around 18°C to 19°C across much of the county.
Conditions will vary considerably between different parts of Cumbria. Barrow, for example, is expected to avoid much of Saturday's rain before wetter weather arrives on Sunday, while higher areas such as Ambleside and the central Lake District are more exposed to heavy rainfall.
The outlook also highlights the contrast between coastal and inland areas. Alston could see overnight temperatures fall to around 5°C on Sunday, while coastal locations are expected to remain milder. For residents and visitors, the forecast means the weekend may require wet-weather clothing and careful planning, particularly for anyone heading into the Lake District fells.
The improvement on Monday and warmer conditions on Tuesday could provide a brief opportunity for outdoor activities before more unsettled weather returns towards the middle of the week.
