Warm Spells And Midweek Washouts Forecast Across Cumbria.
Cumbria is set for a week of contrasting weather, with mostly dry and pleasant conditions expected at the beginning before a wetter and windier spell develops from the middle of the week.
Temperatures are expected to rise gradually before heavy rain becomes the main feature on Thursday. Sunday is forecast to remain mostly dry and settled, with gentle breezes and temperatures reaching around 19°C across much of the county. Monday should also stay largely dry, with temperatures increasing to around 21°C, although coastal areas will begin to experience stronger winds.
Conditions are expected to become more unsettled on Tuesday as cloud cover increases and winds strengthen. There is a small chance of an isolated shower, while temperatures could reach around 20°C in some parts of Cumbria. Wednesday will mark a noticeable change as a new weather front moves across the county. Rain will become increasingly widespread, although temperatures could remain relatively warm, with some areas reaching around 22°C.
Thursday is expected to be the wettest day of the five-day period, with a high chance of heavy rain combined with strong gusts. Temperatures should remain mild at around 21°C, but the unsettled conditions could make outdoor plans difficult.
Coastal communities including Barrow and Whitehaven are expected to feel the strengthening winds particularly strongly from Tuesday afternoon. The second half of the week is then likely to bring heavier rain and blustery conditions across these areas.
In Ulverston, conditions are expected to begin with mild temperatures of around 17°C before becoming increasingly unsettled. Heavy rain and blustery showers are forecast by Thursday, although temperatures could climb towards 21°C. Windermere is also expected to enjoy a relatively dry start to the week, with temperatures around 18°C today. Cloud and wind are forecast to increase from Tuesday before heavy rain arrives later in the week.
Meanwhile, Carlisle is expected to see some of the warmest conditions, potentially reaching 22°C on Wednesday. However, the city will also see widespread heavy rain develop later in the week as the weather front moves across Cumbria.
The forecast shows how quickly conditions can change across Cumbria, with a pleasant start giving way to a wet and windy finish. Residents and visitors planning outdoor activities may therefore want to make the most of the drier conditions early in the week.
The weather outlook is based on Met Office data, with the published forecast generated using AI. Conditions can change as the week progresses, so residents are advised to check the latest forecast before travelling or making outdoor plans.
