Met Office Says Further UK Heatwaves Possible Before Summer Ends.
The Met Office has indicated that the UK could experience additional heatwaves before the end of August, with long-range forecasts pointing towards a return of warmer and more settled weather after a mixed start to the month.
While forecasters stress there is no guarantee of prolonged hot conditions, the overall outlook suggests temperatures are likely to remain above the seasonal average. According to the Met Office, the first part of August is expected to remain changeable, with spells of rain, showers, and occasional brighter intervals affecting many parts of the country. Atlantic weather systems are likely to continue influencing conditions before higher pressure begins to build later in the month.
Forecasters say the weather pattern is expected to shift during the second half of August, increasing the chances of longer dry spells and warmer temperatures. If high pressure becomes established, some areas could experience further heatwave conditions, particularly in southern parts of the UK.
However, meteorologists emphasise that long-range forecasts cannot yet determine exactly where any future heatwaves will develop, how intense they may become, or how long they could last. The evolution of high-pressure systems and any interruptions from Atlantic weather fronts will ultimately determine whether widespread hot weather returns.
The UK has already experienced several periods of unusually hot weather this summer, with temperatures exceeding 35°C in some regions and prompting heat health alerts. Recent studies also estimated that thousands of excess deaths across England and Wales were associated with the extreme heat experienced during earlier heatwaves.
The Met Office advises people to continue monitoring official weather forecasts, particularly those planning outdoor activities or travelling during the summer holidays. If another heatwave develops, the public is encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest part of the day, and regularly check on vulnerable family members, neighbours, and friends.
Weather experts note that while unsettled conditions are expected in the short term, the overall trend for the remainder of August favours warmer-than-average temperatures, meaning the possibility of further heatwaves remains higher than normal.
