Lake District teens rescued after tent destroyed during Storm Dave

06 Apr 2026 Lake District teens rescued after tent destroyed during Storm Dave

A group of teenagers had to be rescued in the Lake District after their camping trip took a dangerous turn during Storm Dave, which brought severe weather across the region.

The group had planned to camp in a remote area but failed to reach their intended destination as conditions rapidly worsened. Strong winds and heavy rain left them exposed, with reports indicating they had no proper shelter after their tent was effectively lost or unusable in the storm.

Emergency services were alerted late in the evening, prompting a full-scale response from mountain rescue teams. Rescuers faced difficult terrain and hazardous weather as they worked to locate the teenagers, who were described as cold, wet, and fearing for their safety.

When teams reached the group, one teenager was suffering from mild hypothermia and was treated at the scene before all were escorted to safety. The operation took several hours to complete due to the challenging conditions.

Rescue teams later warned about the dangers of attempting outdoor activities during extreme weather, stressing the importance of checking forecasts and being properly equipped before heading into remote areas.
