Heavy Rain And Gales Set To Sweep Across Cumbria After Calm Start.
Residents across Cumbria are being warned to prepare for a significant change in weather, with a relatively calm Sunday expected to be followed by heavy rain and blustery winds across the county on Monday.
Sunday is expected to remain largely dry and cloudy, with light winds and temperatures reaching around 18°C in many areas. Rain chances are expected to remain low during the daytime, although wetter conditions will begin moving in overnight.
The biggest change is expected on Monday, when a band of heavy rain and strong winds will sweep across Cumbria. Coastal areas including Barrow and Whitehaven are expected to experience particularly gusty conditions and heavy downpours, while inland areas will also see widespread wet weather. Temperatures will initially remain relatively mild, with some northern parts of the county reaching around 20°C on Monday. However, conditions are expected to become noticeably cooler from Tuesday onwards.
Tuesday is forecast to be more settled but still overcast, with periods of light rain and temperatures falling to around 16°C to 17°C. Wednesday is expected to remain grey and cloudy, while heavier rain could return overnight. By Thursday, Cumbria is expected to experience cool and damp conditions, with patchy showers and temperatures struggling to rise above around 15°C across the county.
The changing conditions will be noticeable across towns and rural areas. Barrow, Dalton-in-Furness, Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston are among the areas expecting particularly wet conditions on Monday, while higher and inland locations such as Alston and Keswick are expected to become significantly cooler later in the week.
Forecasters are describing the week as one of two distinct halves, beginning with a relatively pleasant end to the weekend before a wetter and windier spell takes hold. Residents are advised to remain aware of local conditions, particularly when travelling during periods of heavy rain and strong winds.
