20year nature recovery plan aims to restore ecosystems across South Cumbria
A major 20 year plan has been unveiled with the aim of restoring nature and strengthening biodiversity across South Cumbria. The strategy focuses on rebuilding ecosystems improving habitats and encouraging long-term environmental recovery across the region.
The initiative brings together local authorities conservation organisations land managers and community groups to work collaboratively on protecting and enhancing wildlife rich areas. It is designed to reverse long term habitat decline by reconnecting fragmented landscapes and supporting species recovery.
Key priorities of the plan include restoring damaged habitats improving water and soil quality and expanding natural spaces that can support a wider range of wildlife. The approach also emphasises sustainable land use and the importance of working closely with farmers and landowners.
Community involvement is seen as a central part of the strategy with opportunities for local people to take part in conservation activities habitat creation and monitoring wildlife changes over time.
The long term vision is to create a healthier more resilient natural environment across South Cumbria ensuring that future generations can benefit from richer biodiversity and improved ecosystem services such as cleaner air flood protection and greener landscapes.
