Free Tickets Available For South Cumbrian Veterans Afternoon Tea.
South Cumbrian veterans are being invited to attend a special afternoon tea in Kendal, with free tickets available for an annual event supporting friendship and connection among former service personnel.
The sixth Cumbrian Veterans Afternoon Tea, organised by The Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust, will take place at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on Wednesday, October 21. The event is designed to provide veterans with an opportunity to meet other former members of the armed forces from across the area, as well as offering a relaxed afternoon with refreshments and entertainment.
Organisers say the gathering has become popular among ex-service personnel, their partners and carers. Alongside tea and cakes, guests can enjoy entertainment and use the bar, but the main focus is on bringing people together.
The Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust was established by Neil Jurd in memory of his late wife, Michelle, an RAF officer who died aged 41 following a collision on the A590 in 2009. Michelle Jurd became the first female officer to qualify as a navigator on Puma aircraft and served in locations including Iraq, Kosovo and Northern Ireland. The charity was established a year after her death.
Since its creation, the trust has raised more than £250,000, supporting outdoor activities for more than 20,000 schoolchildren across the North West as well as providing grants to service charities. The charity has previously raised funds through a range of events, including balls, sponsored walks, cocktail parties and a treasure hunt-style event involving decorated ducks.
Neil Jurd said the veterans' afternoon tea provides an important opportunity for people who may not otherwise meet other veterans living in the surrounding area. The trust is also currently seeking new corporate sponsors to help support its charitable work.
Organisers say companies interested in contributing can help ensure funds continue to support the trust's two charitable causes.
