20 Apr 2026 Walker Airlifted to Hospital After 50-Metre Fall in Lake District

A walker has been airlifted to hospital after falling around 50 metres in the Lake District.

The incident involved a 60-year-old woman who slipped on steep and uneven ground below Raven Crag in the Gillercombe area on Sunday, April 19. She sustained serious head injuries during the fall.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was alerted at approximately 10:15am and quickly responded to the scene. Due to the difficult terrain and the severity of the injuries, a Coastguard helicopter from Carlisle was also deployed to assist in the rescue.

Rescuers, along with a helicopter paramedic, treated the woman at the scene before she was winched aboard the aircraft and flown to hospital for further treatment.

The incident highlights the risks associated with walking in steep and challenging areas of the Lake District, particularly where ground conditions can be hazardous.
