M6 Southbound Closed After Multi-Vehicle Crash in Cumbria

08 Apr 2026 M6 Southbound Closed After Multi-Vehicle Crash in Cumbria

Emergency services were called to the scene between junctions 41 and 40 after reports of a collision involving several vehicles. Police, fire crews and ambulance services attended, while traffic officers worked to manage the situation and secure the area.

The southbound carriageway was shut to allow emergency responders to deal with the incident and to ensure the safety of those involved. Authorities also launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Motorists faced long delays and congestion, with queues building on approach to the closure. Drivers were advised to avoid the area where possible and to seek alternative routes while recovery and investigation work continued.

There has been no immediate confirmation regarding injuries.

The M6, which runs through Cumbria and connects key parts of the UK, is one of the country’s busiest motorways, making such incidents particularly disruptive for travellers.

Police have urged anyone with information about the crash to come forward as enquiries remain ongoing.
