Hikers Call for Mountain Rescue After Getting Lost in Eskdale Valley
Three hikers found themselves in difficulty in the Eskdale Valley and called for help from mountain rescue teams late on Wednesday evening.
The group contacted emergency services at around 10.45pm on April 1 using the SOS text service, reporting that they were cold, wet and lost on the fells.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team was alerted and began coordinating a response. However, by the time rescuers were mobilising, the walkers had moved from their last known position and direct contact could not be established.
A later update from the group indicated they were close to descending from the hills and no longer required assistance. In their final message, one of the walkers reportedly declared: “We’re never hill walking again.”
No injuries were reported, and the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of preparation, appropriate clothing and navigation equipment when heading into remote terrain.
