Four Wild Campers Rescued After Tent Collapse in Severe Weather

17 Apr 2026 Four Wild Campers Rescued After Tent Collapse in Severe Weather

A dramatic mountain rescue operation was launched after four wild campers became stranded in severe weather conditions in the Lake District.

The group had been camping along the Corridor Route on Scafell Pike when their tent failed amid strong winds and harsh conditions. As the weather worsened, they were left cold, wet, and unable to make a safe descent.

Emergency services were alerted by police, prompting a full-scale response from the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team. Rescuers located the group, who had managed to remain in a known position thanks to their navigation equipment.

Despite their difficult situation, the campers were reported to be relatively well-prepared for wild camping. Rescue teams assisted them off the mountain and brought them to safety.

The operation involved 10 rescuers and lasted nearly 11 hours.
