Ulverston Firm Launches Calculator Club to Support Students Ahead of Exams
A leading accountancy firm in Ulverston has launched a new initiative designed to support school pupils preparing for their GCSE maths exams.
JF Hornby & Co has introduced its Calculator Club, a scheme aimed at providing scientific calculators to secondary schools across the area. The initiative is focused on ensuring that no student is disadvantaged due to a lack of access to basic learning tools.
Through the programme, schools will be supplied with a bank of calculators that students can borrow when needed, helping to remove financial barriers faced by some families. The firm has pledged to distribute hundreds of calculators, with individual schools able to request a set number to support their pupils.
The scheme is being funded by the Hornby Foundation, the charitable arm of the company, which has a long history of supporting community projects and education initiatives across the region.
A spokesperson for the firm highlighted that a scientific calculator is an essential piece of equipment for success in maths, and lacking one can put students at an immediate disadvantage. The Calculator Club has been created to ensure equal opportunities for all learners during crucial exam years.
The initiative will cover schools across South Cumbria, including areas such as Barrow, Dalton, and the wider Lake District, with schools encouraged to get involved and request support based on their needs.
The launch reflects a growing effort within the community to support education and skills development, ensuring young people have the tools they need to succeed both in exams and beyond.
