Flimby Primary School wins education award at Cumbria Sports Awards
Flimby Primary School has been named winner of the Sport in Education Award at the Cumbria Sports Awards 2026 recognising its outstanding commitment to combining education and physical activity.
The award was presented at the annual Cumbria Sports Awards ceremony in Workington, which celebrates achievements across sport, education, coaching, and community development throughout the county.
The school was praised for its innovative cross-curricular learning approach, where sport and physical activity are integrated into classroom learning, helping pupils develop skills in subjects such as maths, geography, literacy, teamwork, and problem-solving.
A key part of Flimby Primary’s success is its strong network of sporting partnerships, including collaboration with local clubs and community organisations, which has increased pupil engagement, confidence, and wellbeing.
Teachers and staff have worked closely with external coaches and community groups to deliver high-quality PE sessions, outdoor learning programmes, and inspirational sports activities, giving children positive role models and new opportunities.
Headteacher Tanya Peers expressed pride in the school’s achievement, highlighting that the award reflects a team effort involving staff, pupils, parents, and community partners working together.
The Cumbria Sports Awards recognise schools and individuals who make a significant contribution to sport and physical activity across the region, with categories celebrating everything from young athletes to community projects and education programmes.
Overall, Flimby Primary School’s recognition highlights how sport in education can improve learning outcomes, build confidence, and create a more active school environment.
