Two Arrested After Suspected Stabbing In Workington

Two men were arrested after a man suffered serious suspected stab wounds during an early morning incident in Workington on Tuesday.

Cumbria Police were called at 12.28am on Tuesday 29 July following reports that a man in his thirties had sustained suspected stab injuries on Peter Street in Workington. Emergency services attended the scene and the injured man was taken to hospital.

Police confirmed the victim remains in hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries. His condition has not been further updated while officers continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A 40 year old man and a 44 year old man were arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm. Both remain in police custody while detectives continue enquiries.

Officers have launched an appeal for witnesses and are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was in the Peter Street area during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Detectives believe members of the public may have seen suspicious activity before or after the incident.

Investigators are also asking anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell camera footage from the surrounding area to review their recordings and contact police if they captured anything that may assist the investigation.

Cumbria Police said specialist officers are carrying out forensic examinations and speaking with witnesses as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the suspected stabbing. Additional patrols have also been deployed in the area to reassure the local community.
