Thief Smashes Into Petrol Station and Steals Safe in Dramatic Newby Bridge Ram Raid
Police have launched an investigation after a dramatic ram raid targeted a petrol station near Newby Bridge along the A590, leaving local residents and business owners shaken.
According to reports, a man used a vehicle to force entry into the petrol station during the overnight incident before stealing a safe from inside the premises. Authorities say the suspect caused major structural damage to the property before fleeing the scene.
Emergency services were called shortly after the break in was discovered. Officers quickly secured the area while investigators began examining CCTV footage and collecting forensic evidence from the damaged building.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with visible destruction left at the entrance of the petrol station following the raid. The stolen safe is believed to have contained cash and other valuable business items, although officials have not yet confirmed the exact amount taken.
Police are now appealing for information from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity near the A590 around the time of the incident. Investigators are particularly interested in tracking the movements of the vehicle believed to have been used during the raid.
Local business owners have expressed growing concern over rising incidents of commercial theft and organized burglary targeting rural businesses and petrol stations. Community members say the attack has increased fears about nighttime security in the area.
Authorities have urged drivers and nearby residents with dashcam footage or surveillance recordings to contact investigators as the search for the suspect continues.
The damaged petrol station remained partially closed while repairs and security assessments were carried out following the incident.
