Power Tools Stolen from Vehicle in West Cumbrian Village
Police are investigating the theft of a number of valuable power tools after a vehicle was broken into in the West Cumbrian village of Little Broughton.
The incident happened in Church Meadows between Saturday, 19 July and Monday, 21 July, when thieves gained access to a parked vehicle and stole several Makita power tools. The theft is believed to have taken place while the vehicle was left unattended, although officers have not confirmed the exact time the break-in occurred.
The stolen tools are understood to be of significant value and are commonly used by professional tradespeople. Incidents of this nature can have a major financial impact on victims, often preventing them from carrying out their work and replacing expensive equipment.
Cumbria Police have launched an investigation and are carrying out enquiries to establish who was responsible. Officers are asking local residents, motorists and businesses to check any CCTV, doorbell camera or dashcam footage recorded in the Church Meadows area during the relevant period, as it may contain images of suspicious people or vehicles linked to the theft.
Detectives are also urging members of the public to be cautious if they are offered second-hand Makita power tools at unusually low prices through online marketplaces, social media or informal sales. Anyone who believes they may have seen or been offered the stolen equipment is encouraged to contact the police immediately.
Vehicle crime involving tradespeople's tools has become an increasing concern in many parts of the UK, with offenders often targeting vans and work vehicles containing expensive equipment that can be quickly sold. Police continue to advise owners to remove tools from vehicles overnight whenever possible, park in well-lit areas and use additional security measures such as alarms, locks and tracking devices.
As part of the investigation, officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the Church Meadows area between 19 and 21 July, or who has any information that could assist enquiries, to get in touch.
