Police Urge Festivalgoers to Stay Alert After Rise in Thefts at Cumbrian Event
Cumbria Police are reminding festivalgoers to be extra cautious after officers recorded an increase in thefts during a recent festival in the county. The force said most incidents involved unattended or easily accessible personal belongings, prompting renewed advice on keeping valuables secure.
Officers encouraged visitors to remain aware of their surroundings, avoid leaving bags or mobile phones unattended, and keep wallets and other valuables out of sight whenever possible. Police said simple precautions can significantly reduce the risk of becoming a victim of opportunistic crime.
The warning follows reports of multiple thefts over the course of the event, with police continuing enquiries into the incidents. Anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour or believes they may have information that could assist investigators is being urged to come forward.
Festival organisers and police have worked together to promote a safe environment for visitors, with officers maintaining a visible presence throughout the event. Authorities said the vast majority of attendees enjoyed the festival responsibly despite the reported offences.
Cumbria Police are also encouraging anyone attending future festivals or large public gatherings to report suspicious activity immediately and to make use of available security measures. The force says public awareness and prompt reporting play an important role in preventing theft and helping officers identify offenders.
