Police speed camera vans out in force across Wigton and Penrith areas

12 Apr 2026 Police speed camera vans out in force across Wigton and Penrith areas

Police have confirmed that speed camera vans are operating in force across several areas of Cumbria, with a strong presence in Wigton and near Penrith.

The enforcement activity is part of ongoing efforts by Cumbria Police to improve road safety and reduce speeding incidents on key routes. Authorities have highlighted that mobile camera units will be positioned at various locations throughout the day.

Among the areas identified are Wigton, Silloth, Allonby, and routes around Penrith, including sections of major roads frequently used by commuters and long-distance drivers.

Police have urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, warning that anyone caught exceeding limits could face penalties including fines and points on their licence.

A spokesperson indicated that these operations are not just about enforcement but also about encouraging safer driving behaviour and reducing the risk of serious accidents.

Residents and drivers in the affected areas are being reminded to remain vigilant, particularly on rural and high-speed roads where risks can increase significantly.

The presence of speed camera vans is expected to continue periodically as part of wider road safety campaigns across the region.
