Police Release CCTV Image Following Alleged Racially Aggravated Incident in Carlisle

01 Jun 2026 Police Release CCTV Image Following Alleged Racially Aggravated Incident in Carlisle

Detectives investigating a reported racially aggravated incident in Carlisle have released a CCTV image and are asking members of the public to help identify a person they believe could assist with their inquiries.

According to Cumbria Police, the incident is being treated as a suspected hate-related offence after a victim reported behaviour and comments perceived as racially aggravated. Officers say the investigation remains ongoing and that gathering witness information is a key priority.

The CCTV image was released in an effort to identify and speak with an individual who may have relevant information about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police emphasized that the person pictured is not necessarily suspected of any wrongdoing but may be able to help establish the facts of the case.

Hate-related offences continue to receive significant attention from law enforcement agencies across Cumbria, with police stressing that reports of racial abuse and discrimination are treated seriously. Authorities have repeatedly encouraged victims and witnesses to come forward to ensure incidents are fully investigated and appropriate action can be taken.

In recent years, several racially aggravated incidents reported in Carlisle and surrounding areas have prompted public concern and renewed discussions about community relations, inclusion, and the impact of hate crimes on victims. Community groups and local leaders have called for continued efforts to challenge racism and improve public awareness.

Police are urging anyone who recognizes the individual shown in the CCTV image or who has information connected to the incident to contact Cumbria Police. Information can be submitted online, by telephone, or anonymously through Crimestoppers. Officers say even small details could assist investigators in progressing the case.

The investigation remains active, and further updates are expected as inquiries continue.
