Police Fishing Operation Nets No Drugs Only Tadpoles in Unusual Lake Raid

16 May 2026 Police Fishing Operation Nets No Drugs Only Tadpoles in Unusual Lake Raid

Police in Cumbria launched a search operation at a rural lake after receiving intelligence that the area could be being used for drug-related activity.

Officers conducted a “fishing” style search of the water as part of their wider efforts to tackle suspected drug crime in the region. However, despite a thorough inspection, no illegal substances were found.

Instead of drugs, the only discovery made during the operation was a group of tadpoles living in the water, turning what was intended as a serious enforcement action into an unexpectedly harmless outcome.

The operation forms part of ongoing policing activity across Cumbria aimed at identifying and disrupting drug supply networks based on community intelligence and tip-offs. While this particular search did not lead to any arrests or seizures, officers continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activity in their local areas so resources can be directed effectively.
