Police And Lake District Rangers Crack Down On Anti Social Jet Skiing.

Police and Lake District National Park rangers have joined forces to tackle reckless and potentially dangerous jet ski riding on Coniston Water.

The joint patrols took place on Saturday, September 5, after concerns were raised about jet ski riders travelling at excessive speeds on the lake. Officers from the South Lakes Neighbourhood Policing Team worked alongside Lake District National Park Lake Rangers during the operation.

During the patrols, a red jet ski was stopped after members of the public repeatedly reported concerns about it being ridden at excessive speeds. Police said the behaviour had the potential to put other people using the lake at risk. Officers obtained the details of two men who had been riding the jet ski and said the information would be used with a view to prosecution.

A second jet ski was also spotted being ridden at an excessive speed. The rider was stopped by police and rangers and was given a warning. Police said the rider would receive a warning letter advising that further anti social behaviour could result in prosecution.

The Lake District National Park Authority has established byelaws to help protect the safety and wellbeing of people using its lakes. Rangers monitor activities on the water and can take enforcement action when they believe behaviour is dangerous or breaches the relevant rules.

The latest operation highlights the importance of responsible behaviour on Coniston Water, particularly during busy periods when large numbers of people are enjoying the Lake District. Police said they would continue working with lake rangers to keep people safe and identify further inconsiderate riding, while the National Park Authority encourages all lake users to follow the relevant byelaws and consider the safety of others.
