Pensioner Banned After Drink Driving on A590 Near Levens

04 May 2026 Pensioner Banned After Drink Driving on A590 Near Levens

A pensioner has been disqualified from driving after appearing in court over a drink driving offence on the A590 near Levens.

The court heard the incident took place on one of Cumbria’s main transport routes, where police became involved following concerns about the driver’s condition. Prosecutors told magistrates that the case raised serious issues around public safety and the risks created when motorists get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.

During the hearing, magistrates were told that drink driving remains a significant danger on busy roads such as the A590, where traffic volumes can be high and mistakes can have severe consequences. The court considered the circumstances surrounding the offence before deciding that a driving ban was appropriate.

The defendant was also warned about the wider consequences of impaired driving, with the court stressing that even a single lapse in judgment can put other motorists, passengers and pedestrians at risk.

The case serves as another reminder of the continuing efforts by police and courts across Cumbria to tackle dangerous driving and improve road safety for the wider community.
