A man has been taken into custody after an overnight stand off in Ulverston brought armed police to the scene. Emergency services were called to Dale Street on Thursday evening. Residents living nearby were evacuated as officers dealt with the incident.
The operation began at around 7.34pm and continued throughout the night. Armed officers remained at the location while safety measures were maintained. Concern grew among local residents as the incident stretched into the following day. Police worked with partner agencies to bring the situation to a safe conclusion.
At approximately 10.35am on Friday, the man emerged from the property and surrendered to police. Officers confirmed he was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. The stand off ended without any major injuries being reported. Ambulance crews assessed the man after he was found to have minor injuries to his hands and arms.
Authorities later confirmed that a BB gun had been recovered from the scene. Investigators also carried out safety checks linked to the release of gas at the property. The area remained under police control while those checks were completed.
Residents who had been forced to leave their homes were told they could return once final inspections were finished. Cumbria Police thanked the public for their patience during the lengthy operation. Officers also praised partner agencies for their support throughout the incident.
