Man Left With Fractured Skull After One-Punch Assault in Furness

04 Apr 2026 Man Left With Fractured Skull After One-Punch Assault in Furness

A serious assault in the Furness area has left a local man with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain, police have confirmed.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning outside a takeaway on Cavendish Street in Barrow-in-Furness, when a 22-year-old victim was struck during an altercation. Emergency services were called to the scene, and the man was taken to hospital for treatment after suffering multiple head injuries.

Officers arrested a 27-year-old man from the Northeast on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and a 22-year-old woman from Millom on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both have since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the assault, or has information that could assist the investigation, to come forward. Members of the public can report details online via the Cumbria Police website or call 101, quoting the relevant incident number.

This case follows growing concerns about street violence and the serious consequences that even a single punch can have, with injuries ranging from skull fractures to long-term brain trauma.
