Man Arrested in Cumbria Over Alleged £10,000 Fraud Targeting Elderly Woman
A man has been arrested in Cumbria in connection with an alleged £10,000 fraud involving an elderly woman in Humberside. The arrest followed a routine police patrol that identified a vehicle believed to have been linked to the incident.
Officers from Eden Police stopped a Ford Transit van on June 1 after it was reportedly connected to a case in which an elderly resident had paid £10,000 for roofing work. Following inquiries, the driver was arrested on suspicion of fraud and transferred to Humberside for further investigation.
During the same patrol, officers also stopped another Ford Transit van travelling on the A66. The vehicle, which carried Irish registration plates, was found to be allegedly using false number plates. Police further suspected the driver of operating the vehicle without insurance, a valid driving licence, or an MOT certificate.
The second driver was arrested and was later handed over to authorities in Scotland, where he is wanted in connection with a separate theft investigation.
Police have not released further details about either investigation, which remain ongoing. Authorities continue to urge residents, particularly older people, to be cautious when agreeing to home improvement work and to verify contractors before making large payments.
