The incident occurred on the morning of May 26 at around 11am at the junction of Lowther Street and King Street in Whitehaven. It is understood that an altercation took place between two men, during which one man was assaulted.
Cumbria Constabulary launched an investigation shortly after the report was made and officers carried out initial enquiries in the area. A suspect was later identified and arrested in connection with the incident.
The arrested man has since been released on bail while further investigations continue. Police say enquiries remain ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the assault and whether any additional witnesses may be able to assist.
