Man Appears in Court Following Fatal Crash That Killed Grandmother
A man has appeared before magistrates following a devastating crash in Cleator Moor that resulted in the death of a 76-year-old grandmother and left her grandchild seriously injured.
The victim, Gillian Livingstone, was struck by a motorbike while crossing Ennerdale Road with her grandchild on Tuesday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after the collision occurred at around 4:25pm, but despite medical efforts, Mrs Livingstone later died from her injuries.
The child involved in the incident suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital. Authorities said the youngster is currently in a stable condition while receiving treatment.
Kieran Yorke, 22, from Woodend in Egremont, appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving. The case has shocked the local community, with many expressing sympathies for the family affected by the tragedy.
Police confirmed that two additional men, aged 22 and 23, were arrested in connection with the investigation. Both individuals have since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Investigators are now appealing to members of the public for any information that may help establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash. Officers are particularly interested in reviewing dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell camera footage from the area around the time of the incident.
Cumbria Police urged anyone who may have witnessed the collision or captured relevant footage to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and dangerous driving, especially in residential areas where pedestrians and families are often at risk.
Authorities said enquiries remain ongoing.
