Man admits lesser charges in attempted murder case involving knife attack

14 Apr 2026 Man admits lesser charges in attempted murder case involving knife attack

A man originally charged with attempted murder has admitted to lesser offences following a violent incident in which two people were injured during a knife attack.

The case relates to an incident at a residential property on Brent field Way in Penrith in the early hours of November 27, 2025, when police were called to reports of violence inside the address.

Officers discovered that two occupants had suffered injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment before later being discharged.

The defendant, who had initially faced two counts of attempted murder, later appeared at Carlisle Crown Court where he changed his plea following the preparation of psychiatric evidence.

He admitted unlawfully and maliciously wounding the two victims with intent to cause them grievous bodily harm, while also accepting responsibility for attempting to wound a third person during the same incident.

Prosecutors confirmed that the revised pleas were accepted as a resolution to the case, meaning a full trial will no longer take place.

The court heard that the case involved complex circumstances, including evidence relating to the defendant’s mental state at the time of the attack.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced later this year, with the court indicating that a substantial prison sentence is likely.
