07 May 2026 Major Search Launched in Lake District Forest After Person Reported Missing

A major emergency search operation was launched in the Lake District after a person was reported missing in woodland near Miterdale.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team confirmed it was called out by Cumbria Police on Tuesday afternoon at around 3.45pm to assist in the urgent search effort through dense forest terrain.

Rescue volunteers quickly deployed teams into the woodland alongside specialist search dog Jess to help locate the missing person. Drones equipped withthermal imaging technologywere also brought in to support the operation from the air.

Search crews carried out extensive checks across forest tracks and surrounding areas while emergency teams coordinated efforts on the ground.

The operation involved multiple rescue vehicles and specialist equipment as responders worked against time to safely locate the missing individual within the remote forest area.

Thankfully, the missing person was eventually found safe inside the woodland before being assisted by mountain rescue volunteers and later supported by Cumbria Police officers.

The incident once again highlighted the critical role played by mountain rescue teams and emergency services during searches across challenging areas of the Lake District, where difficult terrain and dense woodland can make operations extremely demanding.

Authorities have not released further details regarding the identity of the missing person or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
