Kendal man jailed after stalking and assaulting doctor partner
A Kendal man has been jailed after a court heard how he carried out a campaign of stalking harassment and assault against his partner who worked as a doctor.
The court was told that the defendant’s behaviour escalated over time involving repeated unwanted contact monitoring and incidents that left the victim feeling unsafe in both her professional and personal life.
Prosecutors said the man engaged in a pattern of controlling behaviour including persistent communication and attempts to interfere with the victim’s daily routine. The situation became so serious that the victim reported the matter to police.
The court also heard details of an assault which formed part of the wider pattern of abusive conduct. The victim described feeling increasingly isolated and anxious as the behaviour continued.
Police launched an investigation after receiving the complaint gathering evidence including communications and witness accounts. Officers later arrested the suspect and charged him with stalking and assault related offences.
At court the judge described the conduct as serious and harmful, noting the significant emotional impact on the victim. The defendant was sentenced to a term of imprisonment and also made subject to a restraining order to protect the victim from further contact.
Authorities emphasised that stalking cases are taken extremely seriously particularly where there is a repeated pattern of harassment and abuse of trust.
The court also highlighted the importance of protecting victims in professional roles such as medical workers who may be vulnerable to targeted harassment.
