Four Arrested And Illegal Goods Seized In South Cumbrian Raids
Four people have been arrested after coordinated raids across South Cumbria uncovered illegal tobacco, counterfeit goods, cash and suspected controlled drugs.
The operation was carried out by Cumbria Police, supported by officers from Trading Standards, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), and Immigration Enforcement. Several commercial premises and residential addresses across South Cumbria were searched as part of an intelligence led crackdown on organised criminal activity.
During the raids, officers recovered large quantities of suspected illegal tobacco, counterfeit products, and cash believed to be linked to criminal activity. Suspected controlled drugs were also seized for forensic examination as investigations continue.
Police confirmed that four individuals were arrested on suspicion of offences including the supply of illicit tobacco, handling counterfeit goods, money laundering, and drug related offences. All remain under investigation while enquiries continue.
Trading Standards officers said the operation was aimed at disrupting businesses profiting from illegal goods that undermine legitimate retailers, evade tax, and often fund wider organised crime. HMRC is continuing enquiries into suspected tax evasion linked to the seized tobacco products.
Immigration Enforcement officers also participated in the warrants to investigate potential immigration offences connected to businesses searched during the operation. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any further action will be taken in relation to immigration matters.
Cumbria Police said similar multi agency operations will continue across the county as part of ongoing efforts to tackle organised crime, protect legitimate businesses, and remove illegal goods from local communities. Officers urged members of the public to report suspected criminal activity through the force's reporting channels.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further arrests or charges may follow as evidence seized during the raids is examined by investigators.
