31 Mar 2026 Five Arrested After Early Morning Assault in Carlisle, Two Held on Attempted Murder Charges

Police in Carlisle have arrested five people after an early morning assault left a man in his 30s with multiple suspected stab wounds, sparking an attempted murder investigation. The incident took place on Edward Street at about 3.25am on Sunday, according to officials. The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged following medical care.

Officers say their inquiries have led to the detention of two men, one in his 20s and another in his 40s, both held on suspicion of attempted murder. They remain in custody as the investigation continues.

In addition to those charges, two women aged in their 30s and 40s have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, and another man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent. That individual has been released on bail while enquiries proceed.

Police have appealed to the public for information about the incident, particularly from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around Edward Street, Sybil Street and Lindisfarne Street on the night of March 28 or the early hours of March 29. Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a grey Seat Arona with registration PY23 OES in the area at the relevant times.

The investigation has included searches at several addresses in the city, and residents may have noticed an increased police presence as a result. Armed officers were deployed as a precaution due to the nature of the assault.

Anyone with information that could assist the inquiry is urged to contact police, quoting log 31 of March 29.
