Carlisle Man Jailed for Drugs and Weapons Offences
A Carlisle man has been jailed for three years after being convicted of multiple drugs and weapons-related offences at Carlisle Crown Court.
Martin Gunn, 34, of no fixed abode, was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A drugs, being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, possession of an offensive weapon, and dangerous driving.
The court heard that the offences took place following an incident on March 13 this year, when police stopped a vehicle being driven by Gunn in Ambleside. During the stop, he initially provided false details to officers before attempting to flee the scene, prompting a short pursuit.
He was quickly detained and arrested by police officers shortly afterwards. Further investigation linked him to drug supply activity as well as the possession of an offensive weapon, leading to multiple charges being brought against him.
At Carlisle Crown Court, the seriousness of the combined offences was highlighted, particularly the involvement of Class A drugs and the attempt to evade law enforcement. The court ultimately imposed a three-year custodial sentence.
Police have continued to stress the dangers posed by drug supply networks in Cumbria, noting that such cases often involve wider criminal activity and pose risks to public safety.
The sentencing forms part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to target drug-related crime and remove dangerous offenders from the streets.
