Carlisle Man Banned from City Centre for Two Years Under Criminal Behaviour Order

A man from Carlisle has been handed a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from entering the city centre, except under specific permitted circumstances, after a court decision targeting repeated anti-social behaviour.

The order, issued by magistrates, places strict restrictions on the individual’s movements within key parts of Carlisle. He is not allowed to enter the designated city centre area unless he is travelling through by public transport or accessing Carlisle Railway Station with a valid ticket and must leave the area immediately after completing his journey. Similar conditions also apply to the station itself, requiring him to either possess a valid ticket or purchase one immediately before travel.

As part of the CBO, he is also prohibited from certain behaviours in public spaces, including restrictions related to alcohol in open containers outside licensed premises. Authorities stated that such measures are intended to reduce incidents of nuisance and disorder and to support public safety in the city centre.

The restrictions form part of a wider approach by Cumbria Constabulary to manage repeat offenders through Criminal Behaviour Orders, which are designed to prevent further offences and protect residents, businesses, and visitors in busy urban areas.

Police have warned that breaching the terms of a CBO is a serious offence and can result in arrest and imprisonment of up to five years. The order will remain in force for two years, during which compliance will be monitored by local policing teams.
