Burglar Ian McDuff Targeted Properties Across South West Cumbria.
A man involved in burglary investigations across South West Cumbria has faced court proceedings after properties in the Ambleside and Windermere areas were targeted.
Ian McDuff, who was aged 60 when police issued an appeal for information earlier this year, was wanted in connection with a number of burglary investigations in the Lake District. Cumbria Constabulary issued an appeal on 29 January 2026, asking members of the public to provide information about McDuff’s whereabouts. Police described him as white, around 5ft 5ins tall, and said he often had a white or grey beard.
The police appeal specifically referred to investigations involving burglaries in Ambleside and Windermere, two popular Lake District communities where homes and other properties are located alongside busy visitor areas.
Members of the public who had information about McDuff’s whereabouts were asked to contact Cumbria Constabulary through its reporting service or by calling 101. Information could also be provided anonymously through Crimestoppers.
Court records later showed that a case involving Ian McDuff appeared at Carlisle Combined Court. A public court listing records a hearing on 27 July 2026, although the available listing does not provide details of the charges or the outcome of that hearing.
