Bricklayer Caught Driving at Four Times Drug Limit on A591 Near Kendal
A bricklayer has been disqualified from driving after being stopped by police on the A591 near Kendal and later found to be almost four times over the legal drug driving limit.
Magistrates heard officers stopped the vehicle during roadside checks on one of Cumbria’s busiest transport routes. Further testing later confirmed the driver had a level of drugs in his system well above the legal limit. The result led to criminal proceedings and a court appearance.
Prosecutors told the court that drug driving presents a serious risk to the public because it can affect reaction times, concentration and judgment behind the wheel. The hearing was told that roads such as the A591 carry heavy traffic, making impaired driving especially dangerous.
During sentencing, magistrates stressed the importance of protecting other road users and said drivers who get behind the wheel while impaired place both themselves and others at risk. The defendant was handed a driving ban as part of the court’s decision.
The case is the latest reminder of continuing police efforts across Cumbria to target drug driving and improve road safety through roadside checks and enforcement action.
