Body Found After Major Search for Missing Teen at Lake District Tarn

08 Apr 2026 Body Found After Major Search for Missing Teen at Lake District Tarn

A body has been recovered after a major search operation for a 17-year-old boy who went missing at High Dam Tarn in the Lake District.

Emergency services were alerted at approximately 12:30pm on Tuesday, April 7, after a member of the public reported that a person was in difficulty in the water.

The teenager had entered the tarn and was subsequently reported missing, prompting a large-scale response involving multiple agencies. Teams from Cumbria Constabulary, Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Northwest Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard, and local mountain rescue units were deployed to the scene.

Search efforts included shoreline, surface, and underwater operations as crews worked to locate the missing boy.

Police later confirmed that a body had been recovered from the water. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Superintendent Patrick O’Hara of Cumbria Constabulary expressed condolences, stating that the thoughts of all involved in the rescue effort are with the boy’s family and friends, who are being supported by specially trained officers.

He also thanked local farmers who assisted emergency responders by helping transport personnel and equipment to the remote search area.

Authorities have not released further details, and inquiries remain ongoing.
