Barrow teen sentenced for child sex offences against young girl
A Barrow teen has been jailed after being found guilty of serious child sex offences involving a young girl.
The case was heard at Preston Crown Court where prosecutors presented evidence showing that the defendant carried out repeated sexual abuse over a period of time. The court was told that the offender used manipulation and trust to control the victim and carry out the offences.
The victim described as a young girl suffered significant emotional trauma as a result of the abuse. A detailed victim impact statement was read in court describing feelings of fear anxiety and long-term psychological harm.
During the trial the defendant denied some of the allegations but was ultimately found guilty by the jury after reviewing the evidence and witness statements.
The judge described the case as extremely serious highlighting the vulnerability of the victim and the lasting impact of the offences. It was also stated that crimes involving children are treated with the highest level of severity by the courts.
The teenager was sentenced to a custodial prison term and will also be placed on the sex offenders register for a significant period of time.
Authorities praised the courage of the victim for coming forward saying it played a key role in securing the conviction. Police also reaffirmed their commitment to investigating all reports of child sexual exploitation and protecting vulnerable children.
