Barrow Drug Dealer Banned From Driving After Crash and Needle Fear Claim
A Barrow drug dealer has been disqualified from driving after a court heard he refused to provide a blood sample following a road traffic collision, claiming he had a fear of needles.
Magistrates were told the incident happened after a crash that brought police involvement and further investigation. When officers requested a blood sample, the defendant did not comply. The court was told his explanation was that he was afraid of needles.
The refusal became a significant part of the case. Prosecutors argued that drivers are expected to cooperate with lawful roadside and post collision procedures, particularly when officers are investigating possible offences linked to road safety.
During the hearing, the court also considered the wider background of drug related offending. Magistrates said the case raised concerns not only about criminal behaviour but also about the risk posed to the public when drivers fail to follow legal requirements after a collision.
The defendant was handed a driving ban, adding another penalty to the court’s decision. The case serves as a reminder that refusing to provide evidence during a police investigation can carry serious consequences, especially when public safety is involved.
